Overall it's another pretty average album for them, though it does have its highlights towards the end.
Brian was pretty much out of the picture (except the back cover...) on this album....he was at home in bed taking loads of cocaine and junk food...meanwhile the rest of the band kept on and hired two new musicians; Blondie Chapman (guitar, vocals & composer) & Rickie Fataar (drums, percussion & composer) from the South African band Flame.
The result is a juxtaposition of styles and ideas that kinda fit but sound unlike any Beach Boys album. Brian's track "You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone" nearly sums up the entire album... seems forced, disorientated yet it clings too you even though you don't want it too.
The last two tracks by Dennis are absolutely beautiful and the funk the group made doing Brian's track "Marcella" is the highlight.....As a subsequent note...this is Elton John's Favourite Beach Boys album...
