Generell mag ich die "Essential"-Serie von Sony sehr. Die Doppel-CD's dieser Reihe vermitteln oft ein relativ umfangreiches Bild über Künstlerkarrieren ohne allzu grosse Lücken.
Generell bin ich den britischen Artrockern des Alan Parsons Projects sehr zugetan. Allerdings gefiel mir die Musik der Band in den 80ern wesentlich besser als in den 70ern.
CD 1 spiegelt die Schaffensphase der 70er wieder. Viele der Titel sind mir zu verträumt und haben keinen Drive, obwohl man ihnen künstlerische Tiefe zubilligen muss. Gefallen tun sie mir zum größten Teil trotzdem nicht. Lediglich "Some other time" und das geniale "Lucifer" ragen in meinen Augen heraus.
Die Bilanz von CD 1: 5 starke, 5 durchschnittliche und 9 schwache Songs (wobei die 5 Parts der "Turn of a friendly card"-Suite separat bewertet sind).
Somit ist die erste CD nur mässig (3,11)
CD 2 umfasst die Songs der Band von '82 bis 87'. In dieser Zeit fand ich Alan Parsons wesentlich besser. Bis auf das unsägliche "Eye in the sky" sehe ich praktisch alle Hits der Band aus den 80ern zwischen gut und brilliant. Brilliant sind in meinen Augen "Prime time" und "Stereotomy". Songs wie "Don't answer me" und "La Sagrada Familia" liegen nur knapp dahinter

Somit ist CD 2 nahezu sehr gut (4,47)
