Bob Marley Presentation ;)
Hello Today I have my Eurocom. The topic of my presentation is Bob Marley. Bob Marley was the famoust Jamaican musican, singer, songwriter, guitarist and Rastafarian and I think everybody has heard about him. One of my hobbies is music, I like the Reggae-music of today and Bob Marley´s songs, too. That’s why I chose this topic for my presentation. First I want to talk about Bob Marley´s life and then I want to explain his Rastafari religion and at the end I want to tell you something about his music Reggae. Now I want to talk about Bob Marley´s life: Marley was born in a small village in Jamaica in February 6, 1945 as Robert Nesta Marley. His father was a white Marine officer and his mother was a black Jamaican. Bobs father died, when Marley was 10 years old. He began early to make music and he spent most of his time writing songs and practicing them. When he was 14 he left school to make music with his Band ´the Wailers´. Marley married Rita Anderson and became father of 13 children. In 1962 Bob Marley produced his first two singles. The wailers First Album ´catch a fire´ was released worldwide and sold well. With ´No woman no cry´ he had his international breakthrough outside Jamaica. Bob Marley performed at many concerts, also political concerts for example: simile Jamaica and the worldwide known “One love peace concert”. His songs reflected Marley´s support for the struggles of African and showed his strong opposition to south African apartheid. In July 1977, Marley was found to have cancer. The cancer metastasized to his brain, lungs, liver and stomach. Marley refused medical-care, because of the Rastafari religion. He died in may 11, 1981 at the age of 36. His final words to his son Ziggy were “Money can´t buy life”. This leads me to my second point. I think everybody has heard about Bob Marley, but hardly anyone knows a lot about his religion rastafarism. Resigion was a very important part of his life and most of his songs are about it. He once said: “ Me don´t dip on the black man´s side nor the white man´s side. Me dip on God´s side, the one who create me and cause me to come from black and white.” Bob Marley was the most prominent member of the Rastafari movement. The Rastafari Movement, or simple rasta is new religious movement of black people of Jamaica. Rastas, like Christian church, believe in god the father, god the son and god the holy spirit. Rastafarians assert that mount Zion in Africa/Ethiopia, is a land that god promised to them and where paradise shall be created. That’s why all black people should move back to Africa, in particular to Ethiopia, the holy motherland. The colors from the Ethiopian ensign Red, Gold and Green are also the colors for the rastarari movement. Rastas defeat: homosexuality, alcohol and tobacco, piercing, tattoos and also meat, they are vegetarian. But for many rastas, smoking cannabis is a spiritual act, that cleans the body and mind, heals the soul, brings pleasure and brings them closer to god. Another trademark of rastas are dreadlocks.
Now let´s move to my last point: His Reggae music The Reggae music became international popularity with bob Marley and the wailers. His lyrics have spiritual as well as political content. Most Reggae songs are about: love, peace and agreement. Rasta reggae is peppered with references to Zion, for example The song “Iron Lion Zion”. Reggae has a great influence on today´s music for example: Dancehall Reggae, Rock und Hip Hop. Finally it can be said, that Bob Marley was not only a good musican, he is a idol for many people around the world and also 20 years after his dead many musican copy his style. Today he is the greatest Legend of Reggae music. He is so popular that the government of Jamaica proclaimed Bob´s birthday as the “Bob Marley day” and he have a star on the “Walk of fame”. Thank you for your attent
