unter Teenie Pop verstehe ich etwas anderes…mittelmässiges Pop Soul-Stück dieser jungen Dame aus Kanada, abgerundete 3.5…

dit schijfie lijkt iets voor een bondfilm, maar die hadden we al eerder gehad dacht ik?

Seit Wochen mein absolutes Lieblingslied mit einem altbekannten Sample, das aber nicht zu präsent ist.
Verliert zumindest bei mir auch nach häufigem Hören überhaupt nicht an Wirkung.

My original review said I didn't like this, I don't remember ever not liking this but hey. This is good. Kinda chugs along and gets stuck in your head. I still would have liked it to have a stronger hook, but the production is fantastic and she is very talented. One of my faves of 2015.

So typical that the Take40 hosts went totally orgy over this, yuck. Only took 1 full listen to get annoyed by this, I really don't like her voice, ugh.

It's kind of hard to listen to this properly just because it samples "Ike's Rap II", which to me is very familiar as the backdrop to "Glory Box". But it's still an interesting hit that really stands out with its moody backing which really fits the song's angle of contemplating why you're at a party that you're clearly not enjoying. It's something that's easy to relate to, not just in a literal sense. Rather confrontiing too, Alessia barely leaves an empty syllable once she gets going.

Also she rhymes 'hear' with 'here'.

Absolut nicht meine Musik.

Absolut nichts spezielles aber genauso absolut nichts nerviges. Geht in Ordnung aber haut mich nicht vom Hocker, etwas monoton.

Sie hat durchaus Potenzial, welches man hoffentlich irgendwann zu hören bekommt. Hier knappe 4*

klasse isaak hayes-remake (zumindest die samples, wie bei portishead). für mich ist dies eine super r'n'b-soul-nummer mit tollem gesang dieser jungen kanadierin

Finde ich nicht so gut.

A lot of unspoken, introverted teenagers and young adults can resonate with this song's honest and introspective message. Cara doesn't condone the socially acceptable 'sex + drugs + rock n' roll' behaviour of her peers, nor does she explicitly criticise it. Rather, with the line "truly I ain't got no business here, but since my friends are here, I just came to kick it", her writer's tone suggests an attitude of "you do you, I'll do me". As young as she is, she knows what she's about, and she knows that it's totally cool to be 'uncool'.

Als Teenie-Plastikpop würde ich den Song hier nun auch nicht wirklich bezeichnen, nein. Aber ich finde ihn leider nicht wirklich gut arrangiert, da er im Prinzip keinerlei Höhen und Tiefen aufweist, sondern sowohl die Sängerin fast durchweg auf einer Tonhöhe und in ein und demselben Tempo ihr Ding runtersingt als auch das Songgefüge kaum Abwechslung aufweist. Ist mir alles zu eintönig geraten.

Helemaal geen slechte plaat van deze voor mij nog onbekende Cara. Talentje.

Ik ben toch wat minder enthousiast, want ik raakte hier heel snel heel geïrriteerd van. Alessia Cara zal vast geen slechte zangeres zijn, maar dan moet ze wel met wat minder irritante praatplaatjes komen, want het lijkt nu net alsof ze zich door het nummer heen babbelt in plaats van zingt.

I thought this samples Glory Box. It's very good and could grow on me even more.

Finde ich generell einigermaßen okay. Ohne Portishead-Melodie im Hintergrund wäre das Stück wohl noch blasser.
Meiner Meinung nach ist diese Sängerin total überschätzt. Der Song ist weder eigenständig (Cover-Version) noch hat sie eine soo besondere Stimme um derart gehypt zu werden.

Anfangs klingt der Track noch interessant...aber jeh länger er dauert umso anstrengender empfinde ich ihn und am Schluss ist man leicht genervt davon!

Oke het is niet slecht, maar ik ga zeker niet bijdragen aan het verder 'hypen' van dit nummer. Zo bijzonder is het niet.

Viel cleverer haben PORTISHEAD das Sample bereits in den 1990er verwendet und einen Klasse Song hingelegt..

I feel I should like this, as I can sympathize and relate to the story that she is telling. But I don't. I really, really dislike this.

For the most part, despite some lyrics suggesting otherwise, there is the overbearing sense of condescension that I'm feeling from this and I despise it. Other than the vocal delivery, the lines "And we'll discuss our big dreams/ How we plan to take over the planet" reeks of smug superiority over the people she is talking about and overbears a lot of the song. Though some might be, I'd say most people at parties are not simply defined by partying alone, and really do have a lot happening outside of that. Sure, they may be annoying in that moment and you wouldn't want to be around them, but there is a tendency to oversimplify a person's personality as what they are in that moment, when that truly isn't all they are.

I'm also barely older than Cara, and even now I feel like I've progressed past that age of judging how "cool kids" party, so there really isn't any appeal here for me.

Also, according to Genius.com, Cara says of how she has been to multiple parties with her friends, and how she realised that she had hated "every party that she had ever gone to". I think there comes a point where you probably should have taken upon yourself to stop going to these parties, or just find new friends who have similar interests to those that you mention in the song. I don't know, I'm just struggling to find any sympathy for a person who willingly does something, knows they are going to hate it, and then just stands in the corner complaining about it.

Furthermore, this isn't helped as it has this ugly-sounding music which is next to unlistenable.

A lucky 2*, and one of my worst songs of 2015.

der titel ist eben eine sicle komposition. 4 harmonien von oben nach unten . im retro soul black 70er style wie isaac hayes und co. in der obligaten schleppenden "zeitlupen" mid geschwindigkeit. dazu dann die gesanglichen phrasen. ich finds nicht schlecht gemacht. GUTE TEENAGER STIMME Nichts grossartifes, ausser dem amerika kommerz rytthm piano gelungen. knappe 4.

Eine tolle Nummer die verdient in den USA zu einem Hit wurde!! 5*

Gefällt mir mit jedem Hören besser. Schade, dass das hierzulande kein richtiger Hit war. Hat was hypnotisches, eine coole Atmosphäre der Song. Bin gespannt auf ihren neuen Song, knapp keine 5.

Nimmt den Triphop-Klassiker "Glory Box" schön auf und macht einen guten Song draus - meine Meinung!

Den 'Hype' um "Here" habe ich damals nicht ganz mitbekommen, aber natürlich kenne ich den Song auch schon länger. Recht gut gemacht, hätte ruhig noch erfolgreicher sein können. 4+*

Goede debuutsingle!

Gelungene Single von Alessia Cara. Insgesamt wie oben beschrieben vom Gesang her etwas eintönig, so dass der Song bei mir noch nicht ganz hängen geblieben ist. Da gefällt mir "Scars to Your Beautiful" noch besser.
